Concert 'Ceramic Spine' with diner

How do you create the ultimate fusion of visual art and music? By using the artworks themselves as instruments!

As part of the CERAMICS exhibition, Het Depot presents 'Ceramic Spine', a concert featuring ceramic musical instruments. Artist Hetty Looman created so-called 'Klankbeelden' (Sound Sculptures)—instruments resulting from years of experimentation with the sonic characteristics of ceramics and how these can form a unified whole with the visual and tactile qualities of fired clay.

Inspired by these Sound Sculptures, the Rembrandt Trio composed new music. The Sound Sculptures are primarily played by percussionist Vinsent Planjer. Rembrandt Frerichs and Tony Overwater play historical instruments: the fortepiano (a replica of an instrument from 1790) and the violone (a precursor to the double bass and a replica of an instrument from 1560).
