Dominique Rayou
Dominique Rayou (1957) is a French sculptor working with various coloured kinds of marble from, for example, Italy, Lebanon, and Spain. He is self-educated. Rayou uses his intuition as a guiding principle for his sculptures: matter is, in essence, energy in the form of a certain vibration. From this vibrating background life, and finally human conscience, emerges. Rayou translates this metaphysical concept into very refined sculptures; abstract torsos as well as botanical shapes. Rayou often gives his sculptures a small, narrative and recognisable aspect of the human body. His most recent work shows the relationship between man and fruit in a very playful manner.
