Eppe de Haan
Marble dominates the works of Eppe de Haan. With this material he started his career as a sculptor, and until this very day it remains the material that captures him.
As always in his work, Eppe is in search of the boundaries of feeling, the limits of sentiment. Feeling that he expresses in the serenity and balance of stone. The contrast of cold stone and warm sentiment that he so convincingly bridges. Of the cold north and the warmth of southern Italy. But ever since he started as a sculptor, his works also reflect the theme of emotion and how it is expressed. The names of his statues reflect his search for the key to feeling and to introspection: “Silent Whisper”, “Reflection”, “Aurora”, “Guardiano” and “Thought”.
His marble heads, beyond all human proportion, portray inner tranquillity. They are philosophers, in deep thought, silently expressing what they think. Eppe’s work is a constant balancing act between holding on and letting go. It is this tension but also their tenderness that make his sculptures so special.
