Gerhard Lentink
Gerhard Lentink (1956) could be described as a mathematician in addition to being an artist. After completing his Gymnasium-B high school education, he studied at the Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten Sint Joost in Breda. Lentink is fond of travelling and after graduation explores the world through extended stays in Mali and Ivory Coast, before settling down in Dordrecht in 1982.
His work is characterised by large wooden sculptures, often with a classical or poetic theme. He translates his ideas into designs with utter precision, to later be able to ‘read’ them from sheets when starting the construction of a sculpture. Lentink has a very broad knowledge of (art) history and culture. He poetically and tenderly integrates this knowledge into his monumental sculptures.
