Immanuel Klein

Immanuel Klein (1960) was a composer, musician and visual artist. As of the 1970s he used both art forms interchangeably. After creating paintings and studying cello at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, he created his first sculptures in 1987. Through the Brian Mercer Residency, Klein gets the opportunity to became proficient in creating stone sculptures at Studio Sem in Pietrasanta, Italy, in 2009. This was where he first uses new techniques to combine music and visual arts. Klein was inspired by music scores, nature and the human inner ear, which results in a series of graceful, organic works. Kleins work is characterised by round, soft shapes with a lot of movement, different types of marble and a love for experiments.
