Jan Pater
Jan Pater (1950) knows the human body like no other. After years of experience as a nurse he decided to focus on a career as an artist. Torsos, and specifically the dynamics of the female torso, form the basis of his work.
Pater works directly in the stone, often in marble and granite. He believes that the sculpture should appear from the stone by itself. Nothing has been decided beforehand, except for the stone that he chose. These are often types of stone that naturally have a distinct color.
His sculptures are recognisable by their dynamic, rotating shapes and sleek, smooth finishes. Pater adds an extra dimension in his combined sculptures, where he puts two or more works together. They seem to enter into a dialogue emphasising the dynamics of the sculptures.
