Karel Goudsblom

Karel Goudsblom graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld academy in Amsterdam in 1983. In the same year he was accepted into the Rijksacademie Amsterdam, where he was able to focus on further developing and specialising his work. At that time, Goudsblom had been working on creating moulds for sculptures for several years, such as for sculptures in polyester or acrylic.
Characteristic for Goudsblom’s sculptures is the use of (coloured) plastic and a smooth, shining finish of the surface. Torsos or parts of the human body often get a distinct, questioning pose, sometimes combined with a philosophical title. His sculptures often show a solitary figure.
In addition to the plastic works, Het Depot also shows several of Goudsblom’s ceramic sculptures.
