Kobe

Kobe (pseudonym of Jacques Saelen, 1950 - 2014) was a Belgian sculptor who lived and worked close to the Carrara marble quarries in Pietrasanta, Italy, for the majority of the year.

He worked with marble and bronze and had a lot of knowledge of both materials, which can be clearly seen in the fine finishes of his sculptures. Conceptually, Kobe’s work refers to the ideas of the famous psychologist Carl Jung. He believed that people are often, unbeknownst to themselves, driven by archetypes that are reproduced in all times. Kobe’s body of work shows these prototypical sculptures in a contemporary fashion and with a clear signature from the artist. A signature of sleek, flat and slipping shapes and simple lines.
