Michele Benedetto
Michele Benedetto was born in Campomaggiore, Italy, in 1941. Benedetto studied and worked in Milan between 1957 and 1974. In 1963, he worked at Henraux in Versialia, and afterwards at Studio Sem in Pietrasanta. In 1974, he settled down in his own atelier in Pietrasanta. He was one of the first sculptors of his generation to create big, abstract outdoor pieces.
Characteristic of Benedetto’s work is a certain simplicity and obviousness. He plays with ‘formal means’ such as rhythm, contrast and curvature in his figures. Empty spaces oppose volumes. Through this, sculptures that are made up of multiple parts enter into a dialogue with each other.
