Natasja Bennink
The human body is the bearer of meaning for Natasja Bennink (1974): the person as allegory. Her sculptures, often life-sized, bronze female figures, tell a personal as well as a societal story. They are powerful, independent figures in which the bodily has been connected to sexuality and intimacy. The human anatomy is Bennink’s point of departure when creating a sculpture. In it she finds a special balance of tenderness and power. Intimate moments get a raw exterior of darkly patinated bronze. Naked female figures stand in proud poses with heads held high.
