Pépé Grégoire
Pépé Grégoire (1950) comes from a true artist family. His oeuvre features many fragments of the human body. He studied at the Rijksacademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam from 1968 to 1974, and has been receiving awards for his work from early on in his career.
Grégoire mostly works from several themes, including (the connection between) arms and legs and the human profile. He usually applies these themes in bronze sculptures. His work shows big contrasts in the way materials are used, concerning color as well as the treatment of skin and shape. Large, monumental sculptures have open and balanced poses. Separate parts are always connected and often a sculpture exists of stacked elements. Sometimes very abstract, sometimes through the embracing of hands and feet.
In addition to his bronze works, Pépé creates many portraits and monumental sculptures for public spaces in the Netherlands and abroad (including the United States).
