Rebecca Soethoudt

Rebecca Soethoudt (1971) graduated from the Antwerp Royal Academy for Fine Arts in 1998. After her education in sculpture and intensive studying of the human body, she developed a style that is characterised by round, subdued shapes and a dreamy air.
Soethoudt chooses natural materials for her work. Silk, beeswax and ceramics are combined in various ways in her torsos and human figures. These figures are usually solitary, and float or balance.
Soethoudt has centred the series ‘Floating in Fiction’ on the female body. The floating torsos and the transparent character of silk provide these sculptures with a supernatural feel.
