Tara-Eva Kuijpers Wentink

Tara-Eva Kuijpers Wentink (1996) is a Dutch artist who is based in Amsterdam. She graduated in Fine Arts at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie Amsterdam in 2020 and completed her master in sculpture at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerpen.

Her practice explores abstract, organic forms that evoke the inner physicality of the human body, alongside forms and tissues inspired by the plant world. Together, these elements create an imagined whole. By combining ceramics and textiles, she contrasts the tactile qualities of her work, drawing attention to both materiality and fragility. Her sculptural installations immerse the audience in an environment that offers a glimpse into an imaginary world—one that invites curiosity about an alternative reality, where the beauty of origin coexists with the alienation of new life and the impermanence of existence.

The Het Depot collection includes the work MAY MY ROOTS CRACK YOU OPEN. Tara says about her installation:

"In late 2024, I wrote a short science fiction story: The Lightseed. This story formed the starting point for the sculptural installation MAY MY ROOTS CRACK YOU OPEN. The story is set in a speculative future, in which a new, mysterious organ begins to grow on the vena cava; the largest vein connecting the liver and the heart. This enigmatic organ, named the Lumen Nodus or ‘Lightseed’, arose as a reaction to a world in which the human body can no longer keep up with the complex sociological, economic, and technological circumstances. This new situation is, ironically enough, the result of the human urge to bend the world to its will."
