teja van hoften
teja van hoften (1951) graduated from the Rietveld academy in Amsterdam in 1976. Ever since, she has mastered various techniques and built up a broad body of work consisting of ceramic, textile and bronze sculptures. In addition to these materials, she also works with other, organic and synthetic materials for her ingenious sculptures and installations. Van hoften observes and registers her own existence through her work. She brings forward the human connection with nature and plays on the feeling of being part of a larger whole. The mechanic creation process she uses for bronze and ceramic sculptures often provides van hoften with hybrid shapes that show plant-like as well as human structures. Bodily processes, organs and systems are often featured in her work. As of 2000, van hoften has been working on the first part of “The encyclopaedia of my body”, in which she accumulates her findings on bodily processes.
