Theo Germann
Theo Germann (1926) studied at the Acedemie Artibus in Utrecht in the 1950s, at the Aesthetic Design department. He started his long career in the arts as a photographer and received the Camera d’Or twice for his portrait photography. Through his talent for drawing, his interest for sculpture grew as well. He has fully focused on the latter since 1980. Germann has become proficient in many facets of sculpting, from modelling and creating patinas to constructing and cutting. In addition to timeless sculptures with universal themes, his work also features sculptures based on everyday, simple situations. Germann is curious about the mystique behind man. He attempts to typify a model in his sculptures, not to idealise it. Germann’s oeuvre shows a strong imagination and a big love for the experiment. He works mostly in bronze and stone.
