Concert: 'De wereld van Claude Nougaro'
Tenor Eric Reddet, double bassist Jasper Somsen and pianist Henrique Gomide pay tribute to one of France's most important and innovative chansonniers of the past 60 years.
Program
Anyone who has ever encountered French chanson knows the big names like Charles Aznavour, Gilbert Bécaud, and Michel Legrand. At least as great, and perhaps even more innovative, was Claude Nougaro (1929-2004). Nougaro's first album, released in 1962, was a huge success. His music and poetic lyrics were atypical in the chanson world at the time. His idiosyncratic blend of swirling jazz, Java, Brazilian, and Afro-Cuban rhythms, combined with the Occitan (a regional language in the south of France), made him very popular. Nougaro introduced younger generations to jazz and world music while remaining true to the musical power of French chanson.
